422 Lightcatchers on the new Carglass D.C.

Econation was only too happy to help with the construction of Carglass' new European distribution center in Bilzen. This warehouse covers an area of 40,000 m². To illuminate this floor area, the EcoNation LightCatcher technology is combined with artificial lighting. In total, we installed 422 intelligent light domes in this warehouse. The LightCatchers ensure optimum distribution of daylight across the workstations. Thanks to the diffuse prismatic lenses, this can be done without direct bright sunlight or shadow zones. A lighting control system measures the daylight levels. When enough natural daylight enters the warehouse, the artificial light is dimmed or even completely extinguished. With 422 LightCatchers in this 40,000 m² warehouse, approximately 175 MWh of energy consumption is expected to be saved annually.

WELL-BEING AT WORK

In addition to reducing artificial light, LightCatchers offer numerous benefits that greatly improve the well-being of warehouse workers. Due to good thermal insulation of the domes, temperature fluctuations can be greatly reduced. No overheating in summer or undercooling in winter, but a more stable indoor climate.

Daylight is also healthy and has a positive effect on people's mood. It has been proven that daylight has a positive influence on work performance: it increases employee concentration and efficiency and reduces absenteeism.

ENERGY SAVINGS

With 422 LightCatchers in its 40,000 m² warehouse, it is expected to save about 175 MWh per year. Concretely?

  • Artificial light can burn 2,190 hours annually with this energy

  • It takes 8 tennis courts of solar panels to provide this artificial light

  • This energy can alternatively be used to charge 4,000 forklift batteries
