Total Ertvelde
The skylights at Total Ertvelde were worn out and the incoming daylight brought a lot of heat. Every year, the skylights had to be covered with a layer of lime, to keep the heat out on the one hand, and to make the light more diffuse on the other, since the direct sunlight beams interfered with the machine sensors.
Total decided to replace the skylights with LightCatchers. This intervention reduced the roof opening from 900m² to 200m². As a result, the building is much better insulated. Heat is kept out in the summer and much less heat is lost in the winter. This is because the stagnant layer of air between the two lenses creates an insulating effect. The diffused light diffused through the LightCatcher's double prismatic lenses in the building ensures a well-distributed spread of daylight, so the sensors are no longer negatively affected.
